Superbolt was the world’s first to revolutionize nuts and bolts with multi-jackbolt tensioning (MJT) technology. Our technology has been proven in tens of thousands of successful installations and we continue to develop a multitude of solutions to solve the next generation of bolting challenges.

Multi-Jackbolt Tensioning

Superbolt multi-jackbolt tensioners (MJTs) take the high preload requirements in large diameter bolting and break it down into manageable torques using the jackbolts threaded through the nut body.

How it works

  1. By tightening the jackbolts, a strong thrust (axial) force is generated and directed against a hardened washer
  2. The loads are transferred through the nut body, which is positioned on the main thread by hand
  3. A hardened washer is used to transfer the force while protecting the flange face
  4. The thrust (axial) force of many jackbolts and the opposite reaction force of the main bolt head create a strong clamping force on the flange
  5. The thrust (axial) force from the jackbolt creates an equally strong reaction force in the main bolt

Advantages

  • Tremendous clamping force available
  • Low torque requirement – only hand tools needed
  • Safe method for installation personnel
  • Quick installation and removal
  • Tightens stud/bolts using pure tension
  • Tensioner flexibility adds elasticity to studs/bolts to create a better bolted joint
  • Fits in restricted areas
  • Provides even tension from stud to stud
  • Accurate within 10% of specified bolt tension

Expansion Sleeve Coupling Bolts

Superbolt expansion bolts are truly fitted into the hole due to the radial expansion of the conical bore sleeve.

By design, accurate radial force combined with the known axial clamping load, provides total protection against coupling slippage and thus prevents bolt and hole damage during subsequent removals.

The expansion bolts can be retrofitted to replace traditional interference or force fitted bolts, reliably and cost-effectively.

How it works

By pulling a taper body bolt through a taper bore sleeve, the sleeve expands to completely fill the coupling hole, becoming a truly fitted bolt.

Advantages

  • Truly fitted bolt with radial expansion
  • Safe, reliable and easy installation and removal
  • No coupling slippage
  • No hole damage or re-machining
  • Easy retrofit package
  • Compact, ergonomic tooling
  • Accurate maintenance scheduling
